DECO: LÁMPARA SPUTNIK

¡Hola a todos! Este mes está siendo vertiginoso. Miles de cosas por hacer, muchísimo trabajo y los preparativos para vacaciones pendientes…En cualquier caso, es el último empujón antes del parón estival. Eso sí, el blog no cierra por vacaciones, por lo que, si no queréis perderos nada, podéis seguir mis aventuras por IG.

La protagonista del post de hoy es una pieza decorativa que lleva rondándome la cabeza algo más de un año y por fin la tenemos en casa. Se trata de la lámpara Sputnik y si os parece tan ideal como a mí, este post os dará un montón de ideas sobre dónde colocarla. Empecemos por el principio, el nombre de Sputnik es debido al primer satélite que orbitó la tierra en 1957. Este hito marcó el inicio de una nueva dirección en el diseño, conocida como la “era nuclear”. Así, los diseños de esa época tenían la ciencia como fuente de inspiración, átomos, moléculas o satélites eran los modelos a seguir en ese momento. Actualmente existen muchas variantes del primer diseño de los años 60, pero todas tienen en común su base esférica de la que surgen numerosos brazos de diferentes diámetros y longitudes que, generalmente, finalizan en una bombilla.

A pesar de que la autoría del diseño no está totalmente clara, la lámpara Sputnik se atribuye a Gino Sarfatti, un ingeniero aeronáutico, alejado del diseño, a quién un buen amigo le pidió que creara una lámpara un tanto especial. Y así surgió un reconocible icono en la iluminación de diseño con todo el espíritu del estilo modern mid century.

Let’s start at the beginning, the name of Sputnik is due to the first satellite that orbited the earth in 1957. This milestone marked the beginning of a new direction in the design, known as the «nuclear age«. Thus, the designs of that time had science as a source of inspiration, atoms, molecules or satellites were the models to follow at that time. Currently there are many variants of the first design of the 60s, but all have in common their spherical base from which arise numerous arms of different diameters and lengths that, generally, end in a bulb.

Although the authorship of the design is not entirely clear, the Sputnik lamp is attributed to Gino Sarfatti, an aeronautical engineer, far from design, whom a good friend asked him to create a special lamp. And thus emerged a recognizable icon in design with all the spirit of the modern mid-century style.
